Can you still play Sheep Tag in Warcraft III?

Yes. Sheep Tag lives in Warcraft III's custom games, the same place it always did. The current version of the competitive map, Sheep Tag ReVoLuTiOn 26, came out on 1 May 2026 for game version 2.0.4.¹ Its in-game credits name GosuSheep, Chakra, XXXandBEER and Wrda,² and verit keeps it updated today.^3,4

What do you need to buy?

Players ask this one word for word: "what do I need to buy to play sheep tag? Warcraft 3 or frozen throne".⁵ Today it is Warcraft III: Reforged from Blizzard's Battle.net, which also runs custom maps in the old look: since the 2024 Reforged 2.0 update there is a Classic graphics option.⁶ Many Sheep Tag players use it. As XXXandBEER put it: "We play on Reforged, but most of us use Classic graphics because the Sheep is the size of a Horse on Reforged."⁷

We couldn't confirm whether an old Reign of Chaos or Frozen Throne CD key still gets you online, so check Blizzard's store before you buy anything.

How do you find a game?

Nobody publishes how many Sheep Tag lobbies are hosted. The Sheep Tag Community Discord (about 300 members in October 2026⁸) is where players set up games. In January 2025 XXXandBEER titled a video "Sheep Tag: The Final Stand" and wrote "R.I.P Warcraft 3 Sheep Tag 2002-2024".⁹ The map kept getting updates anyway.

Who it's for: you own Warcraft III, you want the original rules and modes, and you want to play with the people who have been at it for twenty years.

• Ultimate Sheep Tag Fixus, the other living line, reached version 12 in June 2026.¹⁰
• ReVoLuTiOn 7.7.4 (2014)¹¹ is the classic many players remember.
• Epic War hosts about 240 uploads of ReVoLuTiOn alone¹² and about a thousand Sheep Tag maps in all,¹³ if you want an old favourite.

Sheep Tag 2

Sheep Tag 2 is a standalone game by Luna Wolf Studios for Windows, macOS and Linux, with up to 16 players online or solo against bots. It is free to play and still unreleased¹⁴: it has been in a closed beta since December 2022, and you ask for a beta spot by email or on the studio's Discord.¹⁵ You can wishlist it on Steam.

Who it's for: players who want a full standalone game on a computer and don't mind the wait.

Can you play Sheep Tag in a browser?

Yes, two ways.

Emoji Sheep Tag

verit, who maintains ReVoLuTiOn, is building Emoji Sheep Tag¹⁶: the ReVo rules, modes and maps in your browser, in flat 2D with emoji-style art. No account. When we tried it on 4 October 2026 it was empty, we found no bots, and it was built for a desktop rather than a phone.¹⁷

Who it's for: ReVoLuTiOn regulars with a group, who want the exact rules they know without Warcraft III.

Dota 2, StarCraft II and the rest

• Dota 2: a "Sheep Tag" custom game by A_Dizzle, based on ReVoLuTiOn 7.7.4, five against five, best of three.^18,19 It was last updated in May 2020 and was still listed on Steam in October 2026. Whether you'll find a match is another question.
• StarCraft II: a few Sheep Tag arcade maps were made, but as one player put it, "Sheep tag never really took off in sc2".²⁰
• Roblox: we found no Sheep Tag game.
• Korea: "양과 늑대" (sheep and wolves) is a separate Warcraft III map with its own rules, not a version of this one.
