Every way to play Sheep Tag Online

Against bots in one click, with strangers in a quick match, with friends from an invite link, or set up just the way you like. Which to pick, and which team sizes make a fair round.

Play as Sheep or Play as Wolf starts a match against bots at once. Under Play online, Quick match puts you in a game with whoever is playing, and Make a room opens a room you share with friends by link, up to 12 people. Custom game, under More, sets the teams, length, release, bot skill and season. Empty seats are always played by bots, so every mode works alone or with a full room.

Against bots: Play as Sheep, Play as Wolf

The two big buttons on the menu. You get the standard round, 5 sheep against 2 wolves for 8 minutes, with bots in every other seat. It works offline once the game has loaded, and it is the fastest way to learn either side.

  • Bot skill is Easy, Normal or Hard, set in Custom game. It sets the bots you play against; your bot teammates always play on Normal.
  • The Shepherd, the wolves' second class, unlocks after 10 wins on the wolves. After that, Play as Wolf asks which one you want.
  • Every bot has its own temper. Some sheep are brave and some timid, some wolves sharp and some sloppy, so no two rounds play the same.

Quick match

Press Quick match under Play online. You join the fullest public game that has a seat for you, or open a new one. It starts within 20 seconds, and bots take any seats nobody filled. A quick match is always the standard round on Normal, in a random season.

It goes in on Either side at first, or the side you last picked on the Online card, and you can switch sides in the waiting room while seats are open. My pick: Either. You get in faster, and you learn both sides.

Rooms with friends

Press Make a room under Play online and you get a room code and an invite link. Anyone who opens the link lands right in your room, on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install. A friend can also press Join with code and type the code in.

  • Up to 12 people: 8 sheep and 4 wolves. Each player picks a side with Join sheep or Join as Wolf, and bots play the seats nobody takes.
  • The host sets the number of sheep and wolf slots, the length, the bot skill and the season. In a room, every bot plays at the skill the host picked, teammates included.
  • Swap sides each round is a host switch. After each match the wolves change: two players trade places, and with more, the turn to hunt moves round the room. It is the fairest way to play with friends.
  • The host can move or remove players. Each row in the lobby has Move, which puts that player on the other side at once, and Remove, which takes two taps so nobody gets removed by accident.
  • Dropped connection? The game reconnects you by itself and holds your seat. In a match, a bot plays it until you are back, and a reload puts you straight back in your seat.

No friends online right now? The Find players on Discord button in Online shows who is around. Playing with friends walks through a room step by step.

Custom game

A match against bots, set up your way. Every option:

  • Play as: Sheep, Wolves, or Spectate bots to watch a whole round with no fog.
  • Sheep: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8. Wolves: 1, 2, 3 or 4.
  • Survive for: Auto, 5, 8, 12 or 20 minutes. Auto is the default: it sets the length for the team sizes and shows it, 8 minutes for the standard 5 against 2.
  • Wolves released after: 20, 40, 60 or 90 seconds.
  • Bot skill: Easy, Normal or Hard.
  • Season: Random, Spring, Autumn or Winter. It changes the look of the map, not the rules.

Every guide link on this site that says “Try” sets one of these up for you. The round has what a short or long round changes.

Which team size is fairest?

Almost any of them, if you leave the length on Auto. The game gives a small pack stronger bites and more speed and a big pack weaker ones (how the pack scales), and a round on Auto lasts as long as its lineup needs to stay close: shorter when a few sheep face a big pack, longer when one wolf faces a crowd. Here is how often the wolves win each lineup on Auto when bots play both sides on Normal:

The Auto length and how often the wolves win, by team size, bots against bots on Normal
Sheep against wolvesAuto lengthWolves win
1 against 12:4595%
2 against 12:3069%
3 against 16 min64%
4 against 16:1566%
5 against 17:1560%
8 against 115 min66%
2 against 23 min64%
3 against 29 min65%
4 against 28:4564%
5 against 2 (standard)8 min63%
6 against 211:1566%
8 against 213:1568%
3 against 37 min62%
4 against 310:4562%
6 against 38:4561%
8 against 38:3068%
4 against 410:3065%
8 against 49:4564%

Measured 11 October 2026: 180 rounds per lineup on Auto, bots on both sides, Normal. These land between 60% and 95%. Bots are not people, so treat it as which way a lineup leans, not a promise.

My read, for a group of friends: leave the length on Auto and play the team sizes you have. The ones that still lean are a lone sheep against any pack: with nobody to rescue it, one tag ends the round, so even the shortest round on Auto goes to the wolves about 9 times in 10. Give that sheep a friend, or turn on Swap sides each round. Pick a length yourself and the game keeps it, and the pack still scales.

Tutorials and practice

  • Sheep tutorial: about two minutes. Walk into a half-built fort, close its gap, hold it while a slowed wolf chews at it, then Leap out, Shear and build a Wool Wall.
  • Wolf tutorial: run, Sprint, bite through a wall, Howl, place a ward and make your first tag.
  • Try this now: the links on these guides drop you into one moment of a round, already set up. A wolf coming at your wall, a brick room to break, two friends in the pen, the last minute of night. Scenes like these and the tutorials never count toward your stats or unlocks.

Replays and watching

After a match, Watch replay plays the whole round back from above, with no fog, so you can see where the wolves really were. Share result makes a card and a link for your friends. And Spectate bots in Custom game is a good way to watch how a strong fort comes together before you try one.
